Who are Eat Cake - and where did they get that name from?

The name bit is easy - the singers name is Antoine, and it was Marie Antoinette who said "let them eat cake" .... or as she was actually heard to say on being led up to the Guillotine in a last ditch to save her neck ..."and ice cream. I said let them eat cake AND ice cream". We are probably the only band with some logic to their name.

As to who we are - it all started when three musicians called Ted, Keith and Martin met in the Barley Mow in Bonsall on one of the pub's Saturday music nights. A Ry Cooder CD was played during the interval and one particular track inspired us to arrange to meet a couple of days afterwards and to have a go at that particular song. We thought we created a good sound and, with Antoine joining us a few weeks later, Eat Cake was on the road.

The next question is usually "what type of music do you do?"

The short answer is from Booker T to Nirvana, and everything between, including a few of our own numbers. Another description is classic and alternative rock - if that means anything. Our style of playing is probably one of our distinguishing features - we get into the mood of the song and don't just play full on or at the same level throughout the song, We sometimes provide alternative versions, such as a reggae version of Neil Young's "Rockiin the Free World" or a blues version of Bowie's "Jean Genie".
